The farmers made their request at the just-concluded poultry exhibition and conference for Sub-Saharan Africa in Kigali. The conference, which attracted delegates from 50 countries worldwide, discussed the current and emerging issues in the poultry industry. The cost of feed in Rwanda is considered by experts as the main expense in poultry farming, accounting for between 60 and 70 per cent of the inputs for farmers.

Expensive animal feeds is affecting the productivity of the poultry industry, calling for subsidies to lower the cost. If the prices for chicken feed are reduced, farmers argue that the livestock industry can significantly improve the livelihood of rural Rwandans, especially in terms of nutrition.

The animal feed pellet production line equipment exported by Richi Machinery to Rwanda mainly produces poultry feed. The customer stated that if suitable animal feed is now available, the output of chicken (layers) will increase by 98%. Other animals, such as poultry fed on processed feed, may weigh more than traditionally fed animals.

"Our aim is to produce high quality animal feeds at reasonable prices...this will increase productivity. Farmers' livelihoods will improve as they sell their crops to the factory and at the same time use the well processed feeds for their animals," said the project factory manager.

The raw materials of Rwanda commercial 1-2 t/h animal feed pellet machine line project are mainly corn, wheat, soybean meal and other grains. The required feed pellet size is 2mm and 4mm. Because this is a small-scale feed pellet line, the installation was completed in 10 days under the guidance of Richi's mechanical engineer.
